Today has been unbelievably amazing! My family and I got to introduce baby Tristan Joel into the family and world at 12:45pm. That’s right! I’m officially an aunt to a beautiful baby boy! I’m totally stoked. You know that kid is going to be looking damn stylish and be preciously spoiled!
My sister wasn’t actually due until January 25th and honestly, we all thought she would be late because the baby was still sitting pretty high in her tummy. Well, apparently Nugget (You’ll understand this nickname in a minute) had a different plan, one of his own, and this is the epitome of the inspirational stories to follow. My sister’s water broke yesterday. That’s almost 10 days early. Unfortunately, this can cause infection for both mommy and baby, so she was induced around 2am this morning. What does this mean? Well, it forces her into labour essentially.
I, of course, being the impatient, overly excited person that I am, didn’t get any sleep. Ever since I found out my sister was pregnant, the thought of me having a baby nephew in this world gave me butterflies of excitement! Needless to say, I couldn’t wait for this baby to come any longer, and I’m beyond happy that he came early. Heheh! Since I knew the baby was coming, I was honestly awake every hour of the night, waiting for that phone call for me to come to the hospital. 5am I even took the dogs for a walk. No. I kid you not. The time just crawled along. Finally, 12:45pm came, and at 6 lbs 4 oz, baby Peanut was here.
Now, his size is obviously fairly small. He is tiny and adorable, hence the nickname that naturally came to me when I finally got my hands on this baby. The second I walked into my sister’s hospital room, I cried. I then cried when I saw him up close. And again when he started feeding. Again when I finally got to hold him. Again when he yawned. Again when he squealed and well, you can say that I cried the whole entire time. Happy tears of course! I’m the big suck of the family, can you tell?
Thankfully, my baby Nugget was born with all 10 fingers and 10 toes and Mommy and him are doing fantastically. Although exhausted, everyone is all smiles from ear to ear. This wasn’t necessarily the case right when my sister gave birth though. In fact, it was pure silence.
He didn’t breathe.
Everyone knows about the quotes about life for what happens when the baby comes out- they cry and take their first breath in this world. Well, this didn’t happen. The baby was silent, and considering my sister’s profession, she knew this wasn’t “typical”. In a panic, she started frantically asking the doctors why baby Peanut wasn’t crying, why he wasn’t making a sound. My family stood there, for what felt like hours as they stared at the backs of doctors working away on the baby, not allowing them to catch a sight. Their actions were quick and finally, after a minute of no breathing, he took his first breath.
What a relief!
Everyone busted into tears, thankful that this baby was healthy and here. Just a little delayed with his first breath! Now, exhausted Auntie (Me!) is going to hit the sack. Back to the hospital tomorrow. Oh yeah! Since Nugget is so small, my sister has to stay in the hospital a couple extra days just to make sure everything is a-okay.
I’ll be doing a video of today as well, so you guys can meet him! Ahhhh! So exciting, I know!
Today ended as we knew it. What a fabulous new beginning with a new little life. I welcome to you, Aunt Tilly! <3
