You read that title right – I explored the best parts of China right within the city of Tampa Bay, Florida. All it took was a couple of tickets and a trip to Lowry Zoo, and I got to experience the culture, beauty, and world of China.
To be fair, no place can ever replicate China – from what I hear anyway. However, Lowry Zoo hosted a special event called Zoominations. It’s a Chinese Lantern Festival, and the sights were absolutely astonishing. There were giant monuments made of delicate dishes, lights strung across the sky, amazing entertainment and a Chinese dinner to top it off.
I spent the day at the zoo visiting the animals and feeling incredibly guilty for even being there, but Lowry Zoo is different from the rest. Or at least, that’s how I felt. The education about the animals and how they’re helping to keep these animals in the wild and doing what they can for the ones born into captivity was valuable.
It was like night and day. Seeing how the zoo transformed from a zoo into a Chinese wonderland was mesmerizing. The little food shacks were swapped out for Chinese cuisines, the animal costumes were replaced with Chinese dragons, the lights were decorating into cultural designs, and it was absolutely amazing.
But the zoo itself is a topic for another day.
Enjoy the stunning photos of Zoominations in Tampa, Florida that really do absolutely no justice at all.
